Shrewsbury v Sheffield Wednesday, January 30, 3.00pm
League One side Shrewsbury are the outsiders in this fixture and can be backed at 11/4. Championship side Sheffield Wednesday are even money to progress through to the next round. The draw is priced at 12/5.
Shrewsbury somehow picked up an FA Cup victory in between two pretty devastating defeats in the league. They conceded 10 goals in two games but managed to see off Cardiff in a 1-0 win away from home. Mangan got the only goal just after the hour mark. They have only picked up six points in their last five league games and sit just above the relegation zone. A few of the teams below them in the league have games in hand so they will have to keep a lot of their focus on their league games. However a good cup run could be a silver lining to their season.
Sheffield Wednesday are in a much healthier position league wise to their counterparts. They are just inside the play-off places in the Championship and have a good chance to be there come the end of the season. No doubt promotion is their key focus, so they will be happy to be up against a lesser opposition in this round of the cup. In the last round of the cup they seen off Fulham in a 2-1 victory. Bannan opened the scoring in the 42nd, but Dembele equalised just a minute later for Fulham. Nuhiu grabbed the winner in the 73rd minute to grab a place in the fourth round.
Shrewsbury are likely to keep things tight against Wednesday and it will probably take time for them to be broken down. However I think Sheffield will come out on top.
