Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds, January 16, 12.30pm
The home side are odds on favourites in this fixture, slightly shorter than even money at 10/11. The travellers, Leeds, are priced at 29/10 and the draw can be backed at 5/2.
Wednesday have been in decent form in recent weeks, winning four out of their last five Championship fixtures with their loss coming away to table-toppers Middlesborough. Even with this impressive run of late, they still find themselves edged out of the play-off places by two points. With the momentum they are in they could easily secure themselves a place in the next few weeks. Last time out they were pushed all the way by bottom of the table Bolton, but managed to take all three points, winning 3-2. Striker Gary Hooper scored two of the three in this game and is one too look out for in the goalscoring markets. Being at home, the Wednesday faithful will be expecting the team to get a result this weekend. The last time they were beaten at home was back in August, which also came against Middlesborough, and is also the only time they have lost at home this season.
Leeds have had a less impressive run over Christmas than their counterparts. They have picked up six points in their last five games in the Championship, with their only win in these fixtures coming against Preston. Their inconsistent performances has seen them pick up a good point against Derby, but only picked up a point against MK Dons who are struggling. They sit 15th in the league, 11 points from the drop zone and 12 points from the play-off places. It would be a pretty safe bet to say that Leeds will be in the Championship again next season as they sit in a safe mid-table spot. Leeds have won a few games on their travels this season but are likely to struggle against the in-form opponents they have on Saturday.
I expect Leeds to try soak up the pressure but will struggle to keep the game stalemate, forcing the game to open up.
Gary Hooper to score first – 5/1
