Rotherham v QPR, January 16, 3.00pm
The home side are slight outsiders in this fixture and open the betting at 9/5. The away side, QPR, are slight favourites priced at 6/4. The draw can be backed at 23/10.
Rotherham can be quite pleased with their Championship form of late. They have picked up nine points from their last five games. This run has cleared them away from the relegation zone by three points. They had a disappointing results in the FA Cup, losing out 2-0 to Leeds. However this allows them to have pure focus on the league and keep them out of the relegation zone. Last time out they beat Brighton in an impressive 2-0 win over a side that went 21 games unbeaten in the league. QPR will be a tough opposition, but they will fancy their chances having won some big games lately.
QPR have failed to win in their last five games. This has led to them dropping down the table a pretty much diminishing their hopes of a return to the Premiership next season. They were also dumped out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest giving the club little hope for any success this season. However if they can dramatically turn their form around quickly they might sneak into the battle for a play-off position come the end of the season. At the moment they have not been playing particularly badly, just the results are not going their way. Given that they have players like Emmanuel-Thomas, they certainly do have the firepower to take all three points in this one.
This one is hard to call. QPR are the better side on paper but Rotherham have form on their side and the home advantage, but even these have not been a given in the Championship this season.
Emmanuel-Thomas to score first – 6/1.
