Rotherham v Charlton, January 30, 3.00pm
Rotherham open the betting at the odds on price of 4/5 this weekend. The travelling side, Charlton, are the outsider price of 10/3 and the draw can be backed at 13/5. The last time these sides met they split the points in a 1-1 draw back in September – the same scoreline in their past three meetings.
Last weekend I warned that Rotherham had a decent results in them, and to avoid betting against. They lived up to my expectations and held Cardiff to a 2-2 draw thanks to goals either side of half time. However in the past five games Rotherham have only managed to get four points under their belt. Last weekends point was enough to keep their head above water in the relegation battle. They are one point clear from the drop. This will be one of the rare occasions that they will face a team below them in the table on their home soil making this fixture a must win game. Whilst this brings on its pressures, they will be fairly confident going into the game.
Charlton also managed a point last weekend, they drew 1-1 with Blackburn. Lennon gave Charlton the lead before Charlie Austin put Blackburn back on level terms on the cusp of half time. After conceding 11 goals in the two games prior to last weekend, Charlton would have felt a lot better about their performance and happy to get a point on the table. If they are going to have any hopes for survival they need to be beating the teams around them, something they will have to do on Saturday afternoon. However they have the worst goal difference in the league and have only picked up two points in their last five Championship games.
The game will probably be closer than the market has priced it, but I think Rotherham will just about clinch the win.
Double Results HT/FT: Draw/Rotherham – 7/2
