Betting tips and match preview | UEFA Champions League
Roma welcome Real Madrid to the Stadio Olimpico in a match that sees the return of the Champions League after a two month hiatus. This is one of the biggest ties of the round particularly during this weeks round of games and sees Zinedine Zidane take centre stage in the biggest cup competition in Europe.
Roma finished runners up to Barcelona in Group E, recording a not so impressive six points with Bayer Leverkusen due to feel unlucky as they crashed out on goal difference, even BATE managed to register five points in a group where it’s obvious Barcelona asserted their dominance.
They remain well placed in Serie A though, they are in fourth position and find themselves ten points behind table toppers Juventus. Their main target in the league will be to qualify for the Champions League again next term, with Real Madrid the overwhelming favourites to progress to the next phase of the competition but Totti and co will have something to say about that.
Real Looking For Number Eleven
The visitors Real Madrid have had an excellent Champions League campaign, they are slightly off the pace in La Liga though, trailing Barcelona by what could be seven points if Barcelona were to brush aside Sporting Gijon. This shouldn’t detract from their excellent form in Europe with a near perfect qualification period, in a group that included the French Champions Paris St Germain.
Real Madrid will be looking to win these fixtures and continue through to the Quarter Finals of the Champions League, anything other than this would be considered a huge failure at the Bernabeu and this is also Zinedine Zidane’s first match in charge of Los Blancos in a Champions League fixture. Their last match in Europe saw them register an 8-0 win against Malmo, in one of the rare mismatches in this competition.
Roma head into this fixture in great form and have a record of four wins, one draw and one loss in their last six Serie A matches. Real Madrid have a record of five wins and one draw in their last six La Liga matches and based on these statistics alone Real hold an advantage.
Both teams are 8/15 on to score. The first goalscorer odds for Roma are Edin Dzeko at 13/2 with Francesco Totti at 15/2. For Real Madrid Cristiano Ronaldo is at 100/30 with Karim Benzema at 4/1.
The last time these two sides met at the Stadio Olimpico Roma won 2-1 and the odds of the same result are 25/1.
