Preston v Brentford, January 23, 3.00pm
The home side, Preston are favourites in this fixture – they can be backed at 7/5. Brentford are the outsiders on their travels and are priced at 2/1. The draw can be backed at 11/5. In their last meeting earlier this season, Brentford came out on top 2-1 winners.
Teams that average two points a game usually end up near the top of the top come May. That is the form Preston have shown over their past five games. They have picked up 10 points from a possible 15. In the midst of this form they did have a disappointing result in the FA Cup, losing 2-0 to League One side Peterborough. Nevertheless they are working their way up the table and sit pretty comfortably in mid-table. They are 10 points adrift from the play-off places but if the continue their current form they should be in the mix come the end of the season.
Bristol City have been much less impressive in comparison to their counterparts this weekend. They have only picked up four points from a possible 15 and lost out home games back to back in recent weeks. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup by a League One side in the form of Walsall, where a disappointing performance seen them lose 1-0 at home. This kind of form is why the side find themselves in the relegation zone. They will need a few wins in the coming weeks to see themselves clear. Having beat Preston earlier on this season they will fancy their chances, but away games in the Championship can be tricky for any team, let alone a side struggling and in the bottom three.
I think the home advantage will play a part in this fixture. Brentford beat Preston earlier this season 2-1, I’m expecting Preston to return the favour this weekend.
Preston to win and both teams to score – 9/2
