Betting tips and match preview | Euro 2016 Final

Portugal face off against France at the Stade de France in the final of this summer’s European Championships, with Portugal finally producing a result within 90 minutes and the hosts France dumping out Germany in a 2-0 win on Thursday.

Portgual come into this match having finished third in Group F behind Hungary and Iceland but despite this average finish and failing to win a group game they progressed to the latter stages. They played Croatia where they won 1-0 in extra time courtesy of a Ricardo Quaresma goal to knock out the conquerers of the Spanish in the group stage.

Portgual then met Poland in the Quarter Finals at the Stade Velodrome where they yet again drew, with an early goal from Robert Lewandowski cancelled out by a great goal from Bayern Munich’s newest recruit Renato Sanches. This led to a penalty shootout which Portugal won 5-3 with Poland’s Jakub B?aszczykowski the only player to miss his penalty on both sides.

The semi final between Portugal and Wales was billed as a titanic battle between the two galatico’s of Real Madrid, with Ronaldo vs Bale taking the most of the headlines. The game was a tactical stalemate up until the 50th minute when Ronaldo rose highest to head in a well worked set piece. This goal was followed up three minutes later by Nani who tapped in a miscued shot from Ronaldo to make it 2-0, a bridge that Wales couldn’t cross.

This was also the first match that Portugal have managed to win in 90 minutes, with Portugal leaving it late in all of their matches, with the first three matches in the group stage all resulting in draws and the with two of their three knockout matches going to extra time.

Portugal have been one of the more average performers of the tournament but they have saved their best for last in the 2-0 win against Wales and despite performing abjectly up until this point they have every chance of winning this tournament.

Portugal remain slight underdogs in this tie, they will be looking to beat a France side that come into this match on the back of a resounding 2-0 win over World Champions Germany on Thursday.

France Still Favourites

France come into this match having beaten Germany 2-0 in the semi final in a thrilling match in the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, with the hosts now the overwhelming favourites to win another home tournament, having last succeeded in France 1998.

France began their campaign very well having finished top of Group A in one of the more easy groups that contained Switzerland, Albania and Romania and they progress to this semi final tie with an excellent record.

They will be looking to better what has been an excellent campaign so far with a win and if they do so they will win the tournament and take the title of European Champions from the Spanish who have won the 2008 and 2012 editions..

France headed into this tournament as one of the favourites to win the tournament outright but since the first game against Romania they have flourished. They won their first match 2-1, with a goal less draw against Switzerland followed up by a 1-0 win against a spirited Northern Ireland side.

They completed a great comeback win against Republic of Ireland by 2-1, this despite going down 1-0 due to a Robbie Brady penalty and the 5-2 thumping of Iceland on Sunday evening was an excellent result and unlike England a potential banana skin avoided in emphatic style.

They completed the set by beating an excellent Germany side 2-0 with both goals coming from Antoinne Griezmann who has had an excellent tournament, France dominate the goals scored category with Griezmann, Giroud and Payet in places 1, 2 and 3 in the goal scoring charts.

France have a squad of excellent individuals but they have gelled as a team very well and with star men Dimitri Payet, Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Groud firing in the last match they are in an excellent position having hit form at the latter stages of the tournament.

They are the favourites in this match and to win the final, they have an excellent record and will fancy continuing that streak in this game.

Portugal come into this fixture with a record of two wins and four draws in their last six matches. France head into this fixture with a record of five wins and one draw in their last six matches.

Both teams are 5/4 on to score. The first goalscorer odds for Portugal are Cristiano Ronaldo at 9/2 with Nani at 9/1. For France Antoine Griezmann is at 4/1 with Olivier Giroud is at 9/2.

The last time that these two sides met France won 1-0 and the odds of the same result are 4/1.
