Oxford Utd v Blackburn Rovers, January 30, 3.00pm
Oxford open the betting as slight favourites in this FA Cup tie, they can be backed at 13/10. Championship and travelling side Blackburn are available at the outsider price of 11/5. The draw is priced at 11/5.
League Two side Oxford had a great result in the last round – they knocked out Premiership side Swansea in a 3-2 thriller. After going a goal down, a penalty from Sercombe and a brace from Roofe was enough to seal their place in the fourth round. In terms of league form they have been fairly decent, picking up 10 points from their last five games, which reflects in the league table where they sit 3rd, seven points from the top spot. They would have liked another Premiership tie in this round of the cup, instead they face a Championship side where they will still need to dig deep to cause an upset.
Rovers have lost just two of their last 21 FA Cup games against lower league opposition, with both of these defeats coming against Coventry. Blackburn overcame another League Two side in the last round of the cup, beating Newport County 2-1 away from home. Marshall opened the scoring with an 8th minute penalty but Rovers faced the majority of the game with 10 men after Brown was sent off a couple of minutes later. Newport levelled the scoring on the half an hour mark and it was left to Rhodes to push Blackburn through with a 75th minute winner. Rhodes is no doubt a quality player and is one to look out for in the betting.
I’m reluctant to bet against Oxford in the cup even though Blackburn should win, so I’m turning to to the goalscorer market and backing Rhodes to be the first on the scoresheet.
Rhodes to score first – 5/1
