Betting tips and match preview | Barclays Premier League
Newcastle welcome West Brom to St. James’ Park in a fixture where Newcastle will be desperate to move on from their midweek disappointment, with the Magpies losing to Everton. For West Brom they were lucky to escape with a draw against Swansea and will look to produce a more convincing display.
Steve McClaren’s side are in a poor run of form heading into this fixture and they will be desperate to put the 3-0 loss at Everton firmly behind them in front of a full house at St. James’ Park. They have had an excellent January recruitment campaign and have brought in four players of real quality, with Townsend, Shelvey, Doumbia and Saivet coming into the football club. There can be no excuse from the playing squad and management that there has been no investment, Newcastle have bought and bought well. Now is the time to produce on the pitch. They were unable to get Saido Berahino in what would have been a formidable forward line at the Magpies but he could yet haunt Newcastle in this fixture.
The last time they played West Brom just before the New Year they lost a close match 1-0 at the Hawthorns and they will fancy their chances of revenge at home.
West Brom Languishing In Mid Table
West Brom have had an average season, they will ultimately have enough points and quality to stay in the league but even at this stage of the season they are in danger of having nothing to play for. They are unlikely to make a huge tilt at the top ten but then again a run of results and it’s more than mathematically possible, with only four points separating them and Stoke City in 10th place. They are still level on points and games played with champions Chelsea and have also proven hard to beat, with only one defeat in their last six matches, Tony Pulis will be hoping to make it lucky number seven.
Newcastle’s record heading into this match is one win, one draw and four losses. West Brom have a much better record with two wins, three draws and one loss in their last six fixtures.
Both teams are 10/11 on to score. The first goalscorer odds for Newcastle are Seydou Doumbia at 9/2 with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez at 5/1. For West Brom Salomon Rondon is at 7/1 with Saido Berahino at 8/1.
The last time these two sides met at the St. James’ last season, they drew 1-1 and the odds of the same result are 9/2.
