MK Dons v Reading, January 16, 3.00pm
The hosts are the outsiders in this fixture and open the betting at 19/10. The travelling side, Reading, can be backed at 7/5. The draw is available at 23/10.
MK Dons had a horrible outing on Tuesday night as they were torn apart by Burnley. After a good start to the game, they went on to lose 5-0 at home. To make matters worse they could only manage a draw against League Two side Northampton in their FA Cup match at the weekend and now have to play an extra game on Tuesday night. Picking up just four points from their last five games is why the Dons find themselves teetering on the brink of relegation and if they continue in this form they are likely to be in the dog fight come the end of the season.
Reading also face the issue of an extra midweek fixture after drawing in their FA Cup tie. Their form has been slightly better than their opponents but far short of prolific, getting seven points from their last five games. However unlike this weekend’s opponents they are sitting relatively comfortably in mid-table. They are ten points adrift from the play-off places and are unlikely to put forward a real challenge if they keep going with their current form. They are 13 points from the relegation zone which allows the side to play with a bit more freedom than other clubs. However without challenging for the play-offs it is likely they will be focussing on a decent cup run, and if this takes precedent it could affect the outcome of this weekends fixture.
I think Reading will be too focussed on the FA Cup replays, whereas MK Dons need to focus on staying out of the relegation zone. The Dons also face a weaker opponent mid-week so will not have to sacrifice many first teams players.
MK Dons to win 1-0 – 13/2
