Michigan State Spartans Push for No. 1 Seed

The Spartans are tournament bound, but they still have work to do if they are going to enter the March Madness national championship tournament as a top seed.

The Michigan State Spartans posted a huge spread on Sunday as they defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions 88-57. With the win, the Spartans improved to 24-5 on the season and they have some promise to rise in the rankings on Monday.

For instance, in the Coaches Poll there are teams ranked above MSU that lost games in the last week, particularly Oklahoma, Villanova, and Xavier. That gives MSU a great chance to rise up and they have a good chance for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament.

When it comes to betting odds, Michigan State are currently holding at 12 to 1 with Coral. However, with the developments in the last week that have seen their main competitors drop games you have to wonder if MSU will emerge as a second or third favorite for the NCAA title.

The Spartans are unlike most of the core contenders for this year’s national championship in the sense that they have a coach that has won the tournament before. Tom Izzo’s experience promises to keep his Spartan team heading in the right direction. His comments after the PSU victory show that he knows how to guide his team to future success this season:

”Our defense and rebounding kept us in the game and that’s the way we have to win as we move forward,” Izzo said. ”It makes me feel like they’re listening.”

MSU’s tough games in the regular season appear to be behind them. They have just Rutgers and Ohio State remaining, two teams that the Spartans should win. I don’t see this Tom Izzo team doing any worse than a 2nd seed, but I think a No. 1 is much more likely. Backing them and Kansas at 10 to 1 with Betway are moves that promise to keep you very interested in the NCAA developments all through March – and even into early April.
