Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield in the fourth round of the FA Cup, with the Reds desperate to recover quickly from their EFL Cup disappointment.
Jurgen Klopp’s men come into this match on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home against Southampton.
Shane Long (90+1) scored the only goal of the game for the visitors, who have conceded just once in the EFL Cup this season.
It was another counter attacking move that gave the Saints the winner, with Southampton breaking at pace from their own penalty area.
Liverpool endured another night to forget, with the Reds annoyed that Divock Origi was denied a penalty after a foul in the Saints penalty area.
They were also narrowly denied an opener after Fraser Forster fumbled a long-range effort, the Saints keeper just clawed it back off the line.
Winless Streak Continues
The Reds have had an excellent season, but they have struggled in their last five matches, failing to register a win.
This latest result means that Liverpool’s only hope of silverware is now in the FA Cup, with two successive defeats at home as well.
They have lost three of their last four matches, with two defeats against Southampton and a defeat against Swansea.
Klopp was frustrated in his post match interview, with the German venting about his sides lack of luck.
Liverpool head into this fixture as the overwhelming favourites, despite their poor recent form but it is enhanced by their current Premier League position.
With the absence of European football this season, they have been able to perform well in the league but they are running out of steam now.
The Reds will be looking to continue their recent record against Wolves, with Liverpool winning the last three meetings.
Wolves In Mixed Form
Paul Lambert’s side come into this match on the back of a hammering away from home, losing 3-1 to Norwich.
Steven Naismith (13) scored the first goal for Norwich, who went into the interval with a deserved 1-0 win.
A packed second half saw Helder Costa (57) equalise for Wolves, that was as good as it got for the Wanderers though.
Carl Ikeme added insult to injury for Wolves, with his sending off the key moment possibly contributing to the collapse.
Robbie Brady (75) gave Norwich the lead from the penalty spot, with Jonny Howson completing the win for the Canaries (90+1).
Lambert will be wanting more consistency from his side, with the defeat against Norwich coming after wins against Villa and Stoke.
Their win against Stoke was a magnificent effort, they comfortably beat the Premier League side in their own ground.
A win against Liverpool would be another level altogether, with the Reds in excellent form albeit in mixed recent form.
Wolves find themselves in 18th place in the Championship, with the Wanderers struggling prior to Lambert’s arrival.
Lambert’s men come into this match as the underdogs, with the leagues difference and Liverpool’s home advantage informing that.
They will be looking to gain another huge Premier League scalp, with West Brom defeated in the last round.
Wolves will be looking to better their overall record against Liverpool, with the Wanderers winning 27, drawing 14 and losing 41 of their 82 meetings.
Both teams are 1/1 on to score. The first goalscorer odds for Liverpool are Daniel Sturridge at 3/1 with Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino at 100/30. For Wolves, Helder Costa, Joe Mason and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson at 12/1 with David Edwards at 14/1.
The last time that these two sides met Liverpool won 3-0 and the odds of the same result are 6/1.
