Ipswich Town v Preston North End, January 16, 3.00pm
The home side are favourites in this fixture and open the betting at even money. The travelling side, Preston, are priced at 14/5 and the draw can be backed at 12/5.
Ipswich have been in decent form recently, picking up 10 points from their last five Championship games. This is probably target form for most teams wanting to get into the play-off places, where Ipswich find themselves. They will have one eye on their cup fixture against Portsmouth the following Tuesday after they drew 2-2 with the League Two side at the weekend. Tuesday night seen them get all three points against Leeds – a tough game at any stage of the season. They have also taken all three points from QPR and Brighton, so they are capable of performing against the stronger teams in the league as well.
Preston have also had a fairly decent run lately, picking up nine points from their last five fixtures. They go into this fixture off the back of three consecutive league wins. They will be wary that their opposition has also been in good form, but know they have a good performance in them. Preston did have a disappointing result in the FA Cup, losing out to Peterborough in a 2-0 defeat. However they bounced back on Tuesday night beating Bristol City away from home, as an own goal and a late goal from Cunningham gave them a 2-1 and all three points.
Sitting comfortably in mid-table and unlike their opponents, without a cup game to focus on, Preston will be allowed to play with more freedom than Ipswich. Ipswich, whilst in good form, are playing under high pressure in the play-off places and will want to continue their cup run which could affect the outcome of this match.
Draw – 12/5
