Huddersfield v Fulham, January 16, 3.00pm
Huddersfield are home favourites in this fixture, slightly better than even money priced at 11/10. Their visitors, Fulham can be backed at 23/10 and the draw is available at 5/2.
Huddersfield are going into this fixture off the back of an emphatic win against Charlton last weekend. They put five past their opponents in an impressive all around display. Whilst Fulham are a tougher opposition, they will be looking for a similar display this weekend to seal the three points. However they do have an FA Cup third round replay to focus on against Reading on the following Tuesday night. It is easier said than done to not get distracted by cup games, but every player loves a cup match and wants a decent cup run through the season. Nevertheless Huddersfield have picked up ten points in their last five fixtures, the kind of form you can expect at the top of the table, not from a side sitting in 16th place. If they can keep this form up they are likely to start climbing their way up the table. This is something they can focus on as their form of late has opened up a sizeable gap between them and the relegation zone.
Given Huddersfield’s goalscoring form, Fulham will know they will be tough to keep out and they are more than likely going to have to score if they want to take anything from this game – playing for a stalemate is not really an option. Fulham have only picked up four points in their last five games, a record that has edged them a little bit closer to the relegation zone. They are still six points clear of the drop so they are not in any real trouble as yet, but will need to start winning games to open up the gap. Dembele has been their diamond in the rough this season and has been linked with a move to the Premiership. Given that the transfer window is open he is likely to try advertise himself for the remainder of the month and is one to look out for in goalscoring markets.
However I think given Huddersfield’s recent impressive form they are the only winners in this match. With the likes of Dembele playing Fulham are capable of scoring, but Huddersfield are capable of scoring more.
Huddersfield to win and both teams to score – 11/4
