Golden State are in Charlotte on Wednesday night for what should be their 20th win to open the 2015/16 season.
The Golden State Warriors are clearly one of the most ambitious teams that the NBA has ever seen. Having opened the season with 19 straight wins, Golden State have set a new record for wins to start a regular season. However, shortly after setting the record, Steph Curry announced that the Warriors also have greater ambitions when it comes to the record book.
“We talk about 33,” Curry is on the record as stating, referring to the 33 straight wins that the Los Angeles Lakers set as the record for consecutive victories in the early 1970s. “I think I’ve probably talked about it more than anybody else on the team, just because I know about the history and just really how hard it is.”
Golden State will be looking for win number 20 in the quest to win 33 straight on Wednesday night when they are in Charlotte to take on the Hornets. Despite playing on the road, the Warriors enter the game as 1 to 5 favorites with numerous sportsbooks, including bet365 and Stan James. Charlotte, with a 10-7 record on the season, come in priced at +375 (15/4) with the former sportsbook.
The game might be one of the trickier ones for the Warriors to win as they chase the all-time winning streak record in the NBA. While Charlotte look like nothing more than a slightly above average team this season, their overall record cloaks a pretty strong home record. In ten home games, the Hornets have gone 8-2 on the year.
The Hornets are also at the tail end of a successful home stand. Charlotte have won 5 of 6 in a stretch of home games going back to November 18th. If there was a time to face Golden State, then it would be now for the Hornets. They have not been travelling lately, they should be confident, and they should not be fatigued.
However, betting directly against Golden State in the straight-up market at this point in the season requires some pretty long odds. My recommendation is to take Charlotte on handicaps with a +9.5 spread available with Coral at -115 (20/23). The conditions appear to be right for the Hornets to at least put a bit of a scare in the Warriors.
