Betting tips and match preview | FA Cup

Derby County host Manchester United at the iPro Stadium in the opening match of the FA Cup Fourth Round, with the hosts Derby looking to cause an upset and heap more misery on beleaguered Man United manager Louis Van Gaal.

The hosts Derby have been one of the form sides in the Championship this season and have only lost two matches at home,  they find themselves in fifth position in the Championship with automatic promotion still possible for the Rams. The home side will be looking to pile the pressure on a United side that have struggled for goals this season in the Premier League and another added bonus for the Rams is that they have a full squad to pick from as well as the availability of new signing Marcus Olsson eligible despite signing from Blackburn.

United’s poor form continues

Manchester United come into this match with manager Louis Van Gaal’s future still in the balance, there were many headlines at the start of the week suggesting that the dutchman had tendered his resignation after another poor performance at home to Southampton. Van Gaal did fire back during his weekly press conference suggesting that his he has only been sacked the three times this year, it appears that the United board are firmly behind their manager but a defeat in the FA Cup could be the final straw for the much maligned dutchman.

Although league form doesn’t count for much in the FA Cup it’s worth noting, Derby come into this fixture with a record of three losses, two draws and the solitary win. This run has coincided with their decline from first to fifth and they will still be confident of beating a United side that has been very poor this season. Their last fixture was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of fellow promotion chasers Burnley.

For the visitors United their record in the last six is won three, drawn two and lost one. Their results don’t necessarily reflect the poor performances and complete lack of goals during this period and they also remain in fifth position having been in a strong position prior to the festive fixtures. They come into this match on the back of a 1-0 loss at home to Ronald Koeman’s Southampton.

Both teams are 10/11 on to score. The first goalscorer odds for Derby are Chris Martin at 13/2 and Nick Blackman at 7/1. For Manchester United Wayne Rooney is at 4/1 and Anthony Martial is at 11/2.

The last time these two sides played United won 4-1 back in 2009 and the odds of the same result are 40/1.
