Charlton v Blackburn, January 23, 3.00pm
The home side are the outsiders in this fixture and open the betting at 14/5. The travellers, Blackburn are just better than even money at 21/20. The draw can be backed at 9/4. In the reverse fixture Blackburn won on their home soil 3-0.
It is no surprise to see Charlton as outsiders in this fixture. They sit second bottom in the league and are in danger of losing more ground in the relegation battle. They have a goal difference of -32 which is the worst in the league by quite some distance. This was not helped by their result last weekend where were torn apart by Hull in a 6-0 defeat. Previous to this they were dealt another couple of rough results, losing 5-0 to Huddersfield and were dumped out of the FA Cup by League One side Colchester. Conceding 11 goals in two league games is obviously not the ideal form to take into this fixture, they will seriously need to sure up their defence if they are going to take anything away from this game.
Blackburn have not been in good form either of late. Their last league win was over a month ago against Rotherham, and since have lost four games. Their saving grace is that they progressed through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with 2-1 win over Newport County. In their poor run of results they have became one of two teams that bottom of the table Bolton have beaten this season, so are susceptible to losing games to teams at the bottom of the league. Nevertheless they are still five points safe and have a game in hand to the teams around them. Rhodes is the player to look out for in the goalscoring markets.
Blackburn are likely to come out on top in this one, maybe not as convincingly as Charlton’s previous opponents but they should have enough quality to seal the three points.
Rhodes to score first – 4/1
