Cardiff v Rotherham, January 23, 3.00pm
Cardiff open the betting as odds on favourites this weekend, priced at 10/11. The travelling side, Rotherham, can be back at 3/1. The draw is available at 12/5. In the reverse fixture, Rotherham came out on top winning 2-1.
Cardiff have been in shaky form of late, dropping points here and there, notable against the struggling MK Dons where they were beat. Also they had a disappointing FA Cups experience losing the League One side Shrewsbury. However they turned things around last weekend when they came up against Wolves. They put in an impressive display and came out on top, winning 3-1 away from home. Noone bagged a brace and the winger is one to look out for in goalscorer markets. They are currently five points adrift from the play-off places but could definitely be contenders come the end of the season. With last weeks performance most punters will be fancying Cardiff to take all three points in this one.
Rotherham are becoming a bit of a wild card in some of their fixtures this season. One week they’re beating the likes of Hull and Brighton 2-0, pushing aside lesser opposition like Bolton and winning 4-0, but then lose 4-1 to teams like Fulham and sit just outside of the relegation zone. If we have learned anything from Rotherham this season it’s that we should not always be betting against them. Nevertheless they were brushed aside last weekend by QPR at home, losing 3-0. They managed to avoid the drop zone, albeit just by goal difference but will start the feel the pressure as teams below them have some winnable match coming up, which could leave them heading in the wrong direction.
Cardiff are the obvious bet in this one, but Rotherham may always turn up and decide to get a convincing win so it’s wise to stay away from an outright winner. I’m turning towards the goalscorer markets and Noone is very fairly prices to score first at 10/1, but I’m playing it safe an backing him to score in the 90.
Noone to score in 90 mins – 7/2
