Bristol City v Birmingham, January 30, 3.00pm
Bristol City are slight favourites in this fixture and open the betting at 6/4. The travelling side, Birmingham, can be backed at 15/8. The draw is priced at 11/5. Birmingham came out on top in the reverse fixture earlier this season, winning 4-2 at home. The last time Bristol City beat Birmingham was back in 1993.
Bristol City lost last time out against Leeds. They lost by a goal to nil on their travels. This loss was another speed bump in their survival campaign as they now sit just inside the relegation zone. They are in poor form, picking up just three points in their last five games. The only win in this run was an impressive win against table toppers Middlesborough, but also face the rest of the season without a cup run after they were eliminated by West Brom in their replay last week. In their current form, even with the home advantage it is hard to see why they are favourites this weekend.
Birmingham have the weekend free to get another win in the Championship after their early FA Cup exit, where they were knocked out by Bournemouth. Last time out the Brummies won 3-0 at home to Ipswich and are just outside of the play-off places by two goals. In their last five game Birmingham have picked up an impressive thirteen points in the league. If they keep that kind of form going they will finished at the right end of the table come May. In this form it is hard to see Birmingham getting anything less than three points this weekend.
With little value in betting any side for the win this weekend it is probably best to look for enhanced prices. I’m looking at a repeat from the game earlier this season with Birmingham coming out on top.
Birmingham to win and both teams to score – 5/1.
