Brighton v Huddersfield, January 23, 3.00pm
The home side open the betting this weekend at the favourites price of 21/20. Huddersfield can be backed at 13/5 on their travels. The draw is available at 23/10.
Brighton finally returned to winning ways last weekend after going five games without a win in the Championship, plus a defeat in the FA Cup third round to Hull. They got three points on the table against Blackburn in a 1-0 win which keeps their promotion hopes alive. Zamora scored the only goal in the third minute to give Brighton the victory and is always one to look out for in goalscorer markets. It is no secret that Brighton have been struggling for goals and wins lately, but they will be hoping that last weekend’s victory could give them the momentum they need to push themselves back up the table.
Huddersfield had a pretty rough experience midweek when they came up against Reading in their FA Cup replay. They played well in the first leg to force the game to a replay, but went on to concede five. They did however manage two goals of their own but were simply not good enough to progress through to the next round of the competition. In terms of league form they are actually better off than their opponents – unbeaten in their last five games. 11 points from a possible 15 is the kind of form that is expected from teams at the top of the league, not mid-table. Nonetheless this is where Huddersfield sit, relatively safe but not likely to put a real challenge forward for a promotion. This definitely puts more pressure on their opponents ahead of this weekend.
Given Brighton’s recent lack of winning for and Huddersfield’s resiliency to getting beat, the draw is probably the best bet to look at this weekend.
Draw – 23/10
