Bolton v MK Dons, January 23, 3.00pm
Bottom of the league side Bolton are favourites for the first time in a while this weekend. They open the betting at 7/5. The travelling side, MK Dons can be backed at 2/1, and the draw is available at 9/4.
Bolton got a much needed positive result midweek as they clawed their way past non-league side Eastleigh in the FA Cup. They managed to scrape through to the fourth round winning 3-2 at home after going a goal behind in their five goal thriller. This win will have only temporarily relieved a little bit of pressure from them as they return to Championship action where they need to add to their two wins this season to have any hope of surviving the drop. They are a long way from safety and have to make up seven points to make this happen. A home game against another struggling side near the wrong end of the table makes this fixture a must win.
MK Dons had a bit more of a positive performance midweek when they played their FA Cup replay match against Northampton, coming out 3-0 victors. They too will see this as a must win game to keep them away from the relegation zone. They are two points safe as things stand but that could easily change at the foot of the table. In the last round of Championship fixtures they managed a 1-0 win against Reading, giving them hope to be in the league next year. They have won five more games than their counterparts so far this season and will be looking to improve on those stats this weekend.
This is another close game this weekend and is a very hard one to call either way. Given the midweek performances I would have to give the Dons the edge, and at a price of 2/1 it might be worth just backing them for the win.
