Bolton v Leeds, January 30, 3.00pm
Bolton are slight outsiders in this FA Cup fixture and open the betting at 9/5. The travelling side, Leeds, can be backed at 6/4. The draw is available at 9/4. The last time these two teams met was back in October in the Championship, the points were split in a 1-1 draw.
Bolton scraped through their FA Cup third round fixture against non-league side Eastleigh. They were held to a draw in the away fixture and needed a late goal from Pratley to get to a replay where they went a goal behind again but came out 3-2 winners. They are still bottom of the Championship but have started to pick up points recently. They have six points from their last five games, not form to be raving about but still more impressive than the first half of the season. Last time out they beat MK Dons 3-1 in a very good display for a team in their position. Pratley scored in that game as well so is worth a look at in the goalscorer markets.
Leeds were fairly comfortable in their FA Cup third round fixture, beating Rotherham 2-0. Goals from Carayol and Doukara were enough to get them through to this round and avoid a dreaded replay. Since dropping to top flight football they have struggled to live up to big name of the club and without really being in contention for promotion this season, a good cup run would be ideal for Leeds. They would have liked to have been drawn against one of the big clubs and replicate what they did to Manchester United a few years ago, but they will be relatively happy with the draw and expect to go through to the next round.
With the magic of the FA Cup it is always tempting to back the outsider, however considering how tight the odds are, I’m backing Leeds to sneak through to the next round.
Leeds to win 1-0 – 6/1
