Bolton v Cardiff, December 5, 3.00pm
A close fixture this weekend between Bolton and Cardiff. The home side go in as very slight favourites and can be backed at 7/5, with the away side available at the 6/4. The draw can be backed at 11/5.
Bolton missed out on three points at home on Monday night against Brentford and only managed a 1-1 draw. After eighteen fixtures this season they have only managed a single victory in the Championship which came at home to Wolves early back in September. A victory this weekend will only lift them off the foot of the table if other results go their way and will need a good run of games to claw their way out of the bottom three. No teams wants to be sitting bottom at Christmas but this looks like a real possibility for the Bolton side. It will take a dramatic change of form to see Bolton safe but it is achievable.
Cardiff will be fairly content with their current position. They will be disappointed to have not taken all three points last weekend against Burnley last weekend, a victory would have seen them level on points with Birmingham in the last play-off position place. However they are still in good standing to push themselves closer to the top of the table. Even though they are away this weekend they will feel they can take all three points from the bottom of the table. With a couple of home fixtures after this weekend and then a big game against Birmingham, a run of good results would probably see them in a play-off place by Christmas. The three points this weekend are crucial to getting them off to a good start.
Bolton simply have just not had the cutting edge to compete this season. I don’t think there will be a dramatic change in fortune this weekend and I think they will lose out at home again. They may be tougher to break down but I think Cardiff have the ability to do so in the ninety minutes.
