Blackburn Rovers v Brighton, January 16, 3.00pm
The home side are favourites in this fixture, priced at 7/5. The travelling side, Brighton, are an outsider price of 19/10. The draw can be backed at 11/5.
Blackburn have been out of form in recent weeks, they have not won in their last five fixtures and only picked up two points. This has seen them start to slide down the Championship table towards the drop-zone. They are still fairly comfortable and have an eight point cushion from the drop, but will need to get back into form to avoid finding themselves in a relegation fight. They have two games in quick succession, with their FA Cup fixture being played on Monday only giving them a days rest in between games. However their game against Brighton on Saturday will take priority. Their opponents are also out of form and they will be looking to exploit that to get three points on the board. Goals seem to be a big issue for the side, scoring only four goals since November.
Brighton have had a pretty dramatic fall from grace since their loss to Middlesborough. Previous to this fixture they went a record breaking 21 games unbeaten in the Championship. They have failed to win a game since this fixture, picking up only a single point in the four league games and being dumped out of the FA Cup by Hull. They too are on a goalscoring drought, not scoring in their last six games. They have rapidly fallen from the automatic promotion places and are on the brink of dropping out of the play-off places as well. They sit just two points inside the promotion places and have an in-form Sheffield Wednesday breathing down their necks. They will need to start winning games again to give themselves any chance of promotion this season.
With both teams struggling in form and struggling to score, this game looks set to be a stalemate. Whilst both sides need three points I don’t think either side will risk losing and the game will be to cautious to break the deadlock.
Correct Score: 0-0 – 13/2
