Don’t look now but the Anaheim Ducks are starting to show a little bit of promise in the NHL. The pre-season favorites to win the Pacific Division were very slow out of the gates this season and they still are not really contenders in their division. After all, the Los Angeles Kings have consistently played well since the season began and they have a large lead.
However, Anaheim still appear to be sorting out some of the problems that they had in the early goings of the 2015/16 season. As of the end of the weekend, Anaheim sit in third spot in the weak Pacific Division.
The Ducks have points in the standings in each of their last six games, going 4-0-2 in that span. While their scoring aptitude remains a question mark, the Ducks have two shutouts during their recent run of good form. Furthermore, on a couple of occasions, Anaheim have posted four goals on offense, including in on win on Sunday night against the Winnipeg Jets.
The Ducks have a ton of work to do if they are going to get back into a divisional race. Moreover, even if Anaheim keep tallying points fairly consistently, they would need to hope for Los Angeles to start losing as well.
Accordingly, those looking for a betting angle on Anaheim would be wise to look ahead to the Western Conference playoffs instead of at the Pacific Division. Anaheim’s slow start to the season has lead to a lengthening of their preseason odds and Anaheim can now be found at 16 to 1 with William Hill in Western Conference outrights. If they can get in, they are a franchise that features a lot of personnel who have post-season success and 16 to 1 on them would be a good price to have.
