The Washington Capitals have been one of the best teams in the NHL of late and they are emerging as the favorites for the Stanley Cup.
The Washington Capitals have been a team on fire in the NHL in recent weeks. While their current winning streak is just two games, Washington have put together a strong run over the last little while. Going 8-1-1 in their last ten, the Caps, as of Monday night, are on top of the Eastern Conference standings with betting odds that have been shortening in the NHL’s Stanley Cup market.
Currently priced at 23 to 2 (ie. +1150) with 888Sport, Washington have shortened from about 20 to 1 during the pre-season to what they are now (ie. Boylesports on Oct. 22/15). There isn’t much separating the Capitals from the outright favorites to win the Stanley Cup in terms of betting odds at the moment. That status belongs to the 10 to 1 Montreal Canadiens, a team who are playing without their main goaltender.
Washington, though they may be second favorites to win everything this season, have emerged as pretty clear favorites in the Metro Division (+125 with William Hill). Their winning tendencies have happened at a time in the season when the New York Rangers, former front-runners, have slid terribly. In their last ten, the Rangers have gone just 2-6-2, a run of bad form that has seen NYR dip down to third spot in their division behind, not just Washington, but also the New York Islanders.
Upcoming games this week for the Caps, include two home games before the weekend. On Wednesday, Washington will host the Ottawa Senators in a game that starts at 7pm ET. On Friday, the Capitals will host the Tampa Bay Lightning in a game that will also start at 7pm ET.
Betting odds are currently out for the former game and they only make Washington a mild favorite at -166 (about 5 to 8) with Marathon Bet. Given that the Sens have been pretty mediocre lately, that line on the Caps is certainly recommendable.
1.5-pt win on Washington at 5/8 with Marathon Bet.
